Since it was announced way back in July 2007, the Sochi Organisation Commitee (SOC) had been hard at work to bring everything together for the 2014 Winter Olympics. From the construction of the world class Olympic Park in the Imeretinsky Valley on the coast of the Black Sea, to the Fisht Olympic Stadium and the Games' indoor venues all situated so that it's all within walking distance - and don't forget the snow events venues at Krasnaya Polyana.

With the budget expanding to over US$51 million, this was one of the most expensive Olympics in history, surpassing the US$44 million of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

But despite all the controvesy regarding the budget overruns and security issues, all the winter sporting codes that took place during the event definitely made it, by far, one of the best Winter Olympics ever!
